N. 3 io sono di origine.....

 Ciao a tutti.

Io sono di origine italiana   (the adjective must be in the feminine form because the noun ORIGINE is feminine).

Mia madre e' di origine ebraica.

Mio padre e' di origine italiana.

--- If you find that your dictionary gives you an adjective that ends with << e >> (esempio: canadese), that form works both for masculine and feminine and doesn't change.

Now it's your turn to find out and let us know.

N. 2 IT'S

In Italian we skip the subject IT before a verb. There is an equivalent but nobody bothers to use it.

So, when we want to say that something IS, we simply write  << e'  >>.

Esempio:  it's beautiful> e' bello      it's ugly > e' brutto

Bello and brutto are adjectives.

YOUR TASK:

write ONE common expression in English, like "It's interesting" and, next to it, the Italian translation.

The expression must be made of  <<it's>> + an adjective.

Look up the translation in a dictionary (wordreference.com).

CHOOSE ONLY ADJECTIVES that look the same in English and Italian.

ESEMPIO: you want to say "it's interesting"

<Interesting> in italiano is <interessante>. The two words are very similar. OK.

However, if you want to say "it's hard",

<hard> in italiano is <duro>. Completely different. Skip <hard> and find something else.

WORDS that look alike in two languages are called COGNATES. Here we are focusing on ADJECTIVES.

Click Comment below and get started. (Read what your classmates did before you: no repetitions.)

N. 1

My apologies for the hideous color scheme. Blogger was just updated to a "better" version and as a result I can no longer find the old options to customize the site.

Isn't it great that we always get improved versions of things that do not need improvement and that we have to spend hours just to figure out a new way to do the same identical old things?

I hope it's their contribution to the fight against Alzheimer.

POST N. 1

IN ITALIANO, FRASI COMPLETE

Introduce yourself in Italian using the dialogues in A1 (textbook) as a reference and a guide. Say the same things modified to fit your profile in complete sentences.

If you want to write a NEGATIVE sentence, here is an example:

"io NON sono bello e famoso". Just insert NON before the verb (sono).

State your name, if you are man or woman, where you live, as in the examples.

ALSO, state your 'origin': ethnicity, nationality, cultural identity etc. Many of us are of mixed origin: just pick one. The point is to learn words in italiano. I promise I won't check or report you to the FBI if the information is incorrect.
